NFLoving the Jerseys

 Go Eagles!!! (I think?)

That was a great game and half-time show. But, we couldn’t keep our eyes off the team jerseys. Maybe you saw our latest reel and TikTok where we did a brief historical overview of football jerseys, but today, I want to dive a little further.

Sports, no matter what kind, usually have some sort of uniform – the most common is a jersey.

At the end of the 19th century, gymnasts in Germany wore gray linen clothing, but it was team sports that created the need to differentiate between players, thus introducing different colored, patterned, and logo clothing.

At the modern Olympic games in London 1908, uniform regulations were put in place. One part of those regulations required participants to wear a distinct number on their attire.

Sports jerseys were first made of cotton or jersey wool. It wasn’t until the development of synthetic fibers that sports jerseys really developed in different directions. Synthetic fibers like nylon and polyester quickly became popular in sports because they were hard to tear and stretchy. These became the preferred materials for sports across the board - basketball, football, soccer, running, etc.

Here comes the fun part.

Jerseys used to have hand-sewn numbers for identification. Today, jerseys are printed on. We can print on jerseys using heat transfers, screen printing, or DTG printing – with screen printing as the preferred method. Modern day jerseys, with their personalizations, are essential to the modern age, bombarded with multiple different jerseys and merchandise. Custom jerseys help present an unique identity for players and teams.

We’ve printed jerseys for teams before and it is so cool to see them live and in action. Maybe you’re thinking of printing jerseys for your local team or looking to create your own version of your favorite sports team merch. Let us know! We’d love to help your vision become a reality.
